The braces
Well, so be it. You only live once and the best way to live is when you are able to eat, right? 😁 So now the day had come when the brace was placed in my mouth. It takes a long time, but you don't need to be afraid of anything here. Just lie down, dream
away and the miracle is done. In addition to the brace you get rubbers in various strengths, which are also attached to it. It will look like that:

Great, isn't it? 😊 The first time with braces is probably just like you think it is - it takes some time. It's a change, but eventually you get used to it. Especially at the beginning, when the braces start to pull, you can already feel it clearly in
the teeth. I acutally felt how loose each tooth is. The food is of course also a change in the beginning. I can't say that I stopped eating certain things, but some things change by themselves. Since, of course, all the food gets stuck
somewhere in your mouth, I haven't gone anywhere without cleaning utensils. I always had these three parts with me:
Without these Cleaning-Sticks* I wasn't going anywhere. I always had 5 of these guys with me. Especially with the small brush at one end of the stick, I was able to clean the brace from most of the little food pieces. Traveling without these parts was a no-go for me!
If this didn't help and also for the tooth cleansing at the evening, I used these Sticks*. I like them so much, I use them still today without braces.
If this also did not help, I also had this special brush* with me. This is, however, only for emergencies which didn't happen all too much to me.
What is more than uncomfortable, especially in the beginning, are the brackets directly on the inside of the lips. They can scrub the meat up there. Your orthopedic surgeon should give you wax strips for these cases. I even bought this
tooth wax* here myself, but you should always be able to request more wax from your orthodontist. To be on the safe side, you should always have the wax with you wherever you go. If
you are out and your lips hurt, it can ruin your evening very quickly.
After a month, an appointment with the orthodontist was announced again. Until then, I thought that the brace isn't all too bad. Until my ultimate mood killer came across: The palatal arch.
This part makes life more ugly. The first few days my tongue rubbed bloodily against it, which went so far that I was already having difficulties in getting a good breath. After those days and a hardened tongue, I was slowly starting to
get used to it. Thinking about it afterwards, I think it was particularly bad for me that I simply did not expect that another restriction would be anchored in my mouth.
But that was pretty much the last nasty surprise. From here on, I was called monthly to the orthodontist for the standard check and every 3 months to the surgeon. He then checks, when the surgery can be planned. In addition, I received prescriptions for
an accompanying manual therapy, during which a physiotherapist accompanied and supported the adjustment of my chewing and neck muscles every week. I can only warmly recommend it, ask your orthodontist for such a recipe! 😊 If you live
in Nuremberg or the surrounding area, you will find the link to my therapist Nancy Engelke here! Without her, everything would probably have gone much worse.
About a year after the brace was inserted, the time had come. The surgeon gave the green light and we have set an appointment for the operation in September 2018. The palatal arch was removed about two months before the operation. Never in my life I will
forget, how good that felt. 🤣
