The doc visit
The dentist's diagnosis was confirmed during the visit to the practice and the subsequent examination by the orthodontist. I was also told what to expect relatively quickly.
First of all, at my age, such treatments are only covered by the health insurance company if they are done with a surgery - but be careful there, I'll come back later to what “covered by the health insurance company” actually meant.
The doctor explained to me that first of all I need firm braces for at least a year. That was quite a shock for me at first! As an adult with fixed braces! However, this is necessary because the teeth must first be aligned in a new target position. The
teeth have adapted through the many years of "wrong" biting. But now, they first have to be brought into the correct position. This is important because otherwise you can not bite correctly after the operation.
If this is successful, the actual operation will take place roundabout a year later. After that, it would be pretty much done - that's what I thought after that very first meeting. It should turn out, however, that it is not that easy. Even now, 3 years
after the first meeting, I haven't finished the treatment. But more on that later.
I came back home from this meeting and started doing some research. You are probably on this side because you find yourself in that exact situation right now. Cheer up, I know the situation. 😊 So I read testimonials, information pages and also information
about costs and the basic situation with the health insurance company.
I took the time to study the topic more intensively. I looked for more experience stories to get a feel for what I might be getting into. And even if it didn't sound so sparkling - the thought of not being able to chew and eat properly has won. Being old without the pleasure of eating just doesn't sound that desirable to me. So the decision was made, I'll have my jaw broken!
