Why in earth should I have a jaw surgery?
First of all, how did I get the weird idea I have to get my jaw broken? I had a classic underbite, meaning that my lower teeth were biting over my upper teeth. The orthodontist then tried to correct this with loose braces. But since my little me back
then was not the greatest of friends with these braces, my teeth only straightened out enough that I could bite with my lower teeth directly on my upper teeth. Which looked like this:

Now I had maintained this state well into adulthood. Visually, this didn't bother me too much and my teeth position wasn't an obstacle for me when I was eating. However, I kept having strange shoulder pains (with or without doing sports and exercises)
that couldn't really be explained. But still, it was never so bad that it would have made sense for me to think about a jaw treatment.
The crucial point came with a visit at the dentists house. The dentist, whom I also trust very much, asked me about my jaw. She then told me that when I will be old, my masticatory muscles will give me significant problems when eating. Now the problem
is, I love to eat ...
The dentist recommended an orthodontist to me, but also insisted that she would not get any money from it from anyone and that I also can go to anyone else. After I got home I was very upset - what should I do now? Fortunately, a friend of my wife's was
in a similar situation. So a few days later I asked her about her experiences. She also recommended a good doctor to me, so I made an appointment.
